This dabbler likes to spend time out in deeper water but also forages on land. The shorter bill allows it to clip grass easily. The male has a white streak on top of the head that extends from the top of the bill, and a green streak around the eye that continues down the back of the head. The bill is a pale gray blue with a black tip.
