Blue Jay
Cyanocitta cristata
Bright blue with a crest that is raised when agitated, this bird is easy to identify and they are common in both suburban and wooded areas. Their most recognizable call is a repeated harsh single note warning if anyone approaches their territory. They have a varied diet but especially like acorns, so keep an eye out for them around oak trees. Surplus nuts are hidden in the dirt and under dried leaves to be eaten later.
