Eastern Phoebe
Sayornis phoebe Mar–Nov
One of the more common species from this family, the overall brown and off-white coloring can make this flycatcher blend into the background. A good spot to look for them is around York Pond since the shallow water attracts a lot of insects during the warmer months. This bird is named for the two note song the males sing, a loud fee-bee. The second note can either have an emphatic buzzy undertone, or sometimes more of a vibrating trill. Another identifying characteristic is the tail-flicking or pumping motion the birds display, moving the tail rhythmically up and down.
