Eastern Towhee
Pipilo erythrophthalmus
This striking bird is much bigger when compared to the typical sparrow, being slightly smaller than an American Robin. The males are bolder in color with black, white, and rusty feathers, while the female swaps in brown instead of black. Despite this, they can be hard to spot due to inhabiting shrubby areas with dense vegetation. It's more likely to see them in less developed areas, such as Prudence Island, than in an urban setting often associated with sparrows. The signature song of the male is a cheerful drink-your-teeeeaaa!
