Mourning Dove

Zenaida macroura

Being more delicate in appearance, with a long pointed tail that flares out into a diamond shape when taking flight, the male dove produces a hoo-O-hoo-hoo-hoo cooing call. In addition, a distinctive whistling sound is made by the air moving through the wing feathers at lift off, acting as an alarm to other doves nearby.
