Mute Swan
Cygnus olor
Graceful looking birds often seen calmly floating on the water, they have a bright orange bill with a protruding black knob on top. Originally brought over from Europe in the mid 1800s for ornamental purposes, Mute Swans have multiplied greatly in North America and have established breeding populations that are nonmigratory. Although they do not honk loudly, these swans are not mute and produce a range of snorts, hisses, and whistles.
