Tufted Titmouse

Baeolophus bicolor

A cousin to the Black-capped Chickadee, this bird belongs in the same family and shares similar characteristics when it comes to food and habitat preferences. They often flock together, so if one is nearby it's likely you will see the other in the vicinity. Their most distinctive feature is the little crest on top of its head that gives it a pointed appearance. Another characteristic this bird shares with the Black-capped Chickadee is the hoarding behavior of hiding seeds in various locations for later snacking. Both species act as lookouts, calling out alarms that alert birds in the area of danger.
