Willet

Tringa semipalmata Apr–Sep

Named for its signature call that sounds something like pill-will-willet, this is a large bird with gray legs that appears drab at first glance, until it takes flight and reveals the dramatic black-and-white markings on its wings. A common sight at Jacob's Point Preserve, look for them feeding on the mudflats or perched on trees.
