Blackstone Park Conservation District

A green haven made up of three sections, this 45-acre woodland borders the Seekonk river and provides a great habitat for flycatchers, woodpeckers, and kinglets among many other birds.

The district is a natural buffer zone from the residential streets nearby, helping to reduce the amount of runoff that goes into the river. It can come as a surprise that this beautiful area is located just a few blocks away from the busy streets of Wayland Square. With a network of wooded trails weaving along the hillside, there are two ponds located within the district; York Pond in the central portion and Hockey Pond in the southern section. Both of these spots are good for birding as the water attracts different types of ducks, herons, sandpipers, and other water birds. Although not overly crowded, many dog walkers, fisherman, and early morning rowers from the Narragansett Boat Club make use of this park.
