Swan Point Cemetery

Established in 1846, this cemetery borders the Seekonk River and is one of the best spots for birding in Providence. Cemeteries can be an oasis of tranquility that a casual passerby may overlook.

There are usually only a few visitors at any given time, and most cemeteries do not allow dogs on the grounds. They often function as a natural haven for birds, especially if mature trees are incorporated into the landscaping, as is the case here. Swan Point is particularly welcoming to birders, opening their gates earlier in May when spring migration is in full swing. During this period, the wooded areas are filled with a cacophony of song, with many different types of warblers flitting among the branches.
